Slab leaks are becoming a more prevalent issue in the Dallas area. As a homeowner, this is something you definitely want to be aware of. These leaks can cause substantial damage to your home’s foundation and plumbing system, but the good news is that they can be repaired if caught early. In this blog post, we’ll explain why slab leaks are becoming more common in the Dallas area, how to identify them, and how Swan Electric, Plumbing, Heating & Air can help. Plus, we’ll showcase a recent slab leak repair job we performed in Mesquite, TX, to give you a better idea of how we approach these situations.
Slab leaks are becoming more frequent in the Dallas area for several reasons:
Many homes in the Dallas area were built 20+ years ago with plumbing that may be showing signs of wear and tear. As pipes corrode or crack, they become more prone to leaks.
The clay-heavy soil in North Texas can expand and contract, especially during periods of drought or heavy rain. This shifting puts pressure on your pipes, leading to potential fractures and leaks.
Hard water is another issue. The mineral buildup can cause pipes to corrode over time, leading to leaks under the slab.
Here are some key indicators that you might have a slab leak:
A sudden jump in your water bill without a corresponding increase in water use could mean you have a hidden leak.
If you notice water spots or dampness around your floorboards, this is a common sign of a slab leak.
Slab leaks can reduce water pressure in your home, especially if the leak is significant.
For hot water leaks, you might feel warm areas on your floors, especially in the winter months.
Recently, we were called out to a home in Mesquite, TX, where the homeowner was experiencing issues related to a slab leak. The water line from the bathroom manifold to the shower had developed a leak under the slab, causing water to seep into the home. Here’s how we handled the job:
Our team arrived at the home and conducted a thorough inspection, which included using advanced detection tools to locate the exact location of the leak. The moisture had caused visible damage to the carpet and flooring (see photos below).
This shows the wet carpet area in the bedroom where the water was seeping through the foundation.
The second image shows the exterior of the home, where we traced the leak back to the source—the bathroom manifold.
The third image reveals the access point where we opened the floor to fix the leak and reroute the water line from the bathroom manifold to the shower.

Instead of attempting to repair the broken pipe under the slab, we decided to reroute the water line from the bathroom manifold to the shower through a different path. This method avoids future potential issues under the slab and is a more effective long-term solution.
Once the rerouting was complete, we tested the water system to ensure everything was working perfectly. The homeowner now enjoys a reliable plumbing system with no more worries about slab leaks.
