Why You Should Consider Replacing Your HVAC System Before 2025

Are you on the fence about upgrading your HVAC system? With inflation rampant in 2022 and no end in sight, you may want to consider making the switch sooner than you think.

By January 1, 2025, air conditioner prices are expected to continue to increase dramatically as a result of changes in HVAC standards and practices coming in the new year. 

The SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) ratings, the ratio of the cooling output of an AC over a typical cooling season divided by the energy it uses in Watt-Hours, of existing systems will decrease due to a new standard. At the same time, there is a corresponding increase in the minimum efficiency standard for HVAC systems. 

So what does this mean for homeowners? Systems with lower SEER ratings, cannot be manufactured or installed in the new year, so the price of new systems will increase by around 30%.

There is still a bit of time until the end of 2024 that permits distributors to sell off their existing inventory to ensure that the new standards are in force by January 1st. However, after the pandemic there are still challenges in the global supply chain that continue to impact product inventory.
